1. What is this site all about?
Have you ever been
mistaken for someone else? Have you ever had someone come up to you and
say “It’s amazing? You look just like my friend (aunt/cousin/nephew)
___________!” Sure you have. Almost everyone has. Have you ever wondered
if there really was someone who looked just like you somewhere in the
world: a twin, look-alike or body double? Did you know that in our
world of approximately six billion people, each one of us is said to
have at least six look-alikes or body doubles. If that is so, what would
they really look like? Would they be an exact replica of you? Would they
think like you, act like you, have the same desires and aspirations as
you? Wouldn’t you like to know?
Now you can. With the
advent of biometrics, and in particular facial recognition technology,
automating the search for matching faces is easier the ever. Backed by
the power of the World Wide Web and the Internet, access to a worldwide
database of faces is accomplished effortlessly. Facial recognition
software is based on the ability to first recognize faces in two
dimensional images, and then measure the various features of each face.
Those dimensions are then stored as computer code so it can be compared
to thousands, if not millions, of other faces.

2. What is the best type of profile photo to
upload?
The best type of photo to upload is front-facing, with
no shadows on the face and no obstructions of the face, i.e.. hair,
hats, sunglasses (regular glasses are okay), hands, cell phones, etc...
Your photo should also be cropped (cut) around the face so that only
your head shows. We have a cropping device on the photo upload page that
is easy to use. Your photo should be cropped because if it is not, your
face drops way back in the picture frame of a thumbnail-size image, and
cannot be readily seen by other members trying to match you. This also
applies to photos with more than one person in it. Please be kind to
other members and crop out any other people in your photo so other
members know who they are comparing themselves to. If you have already
uploaded your picture and did not crop it, you can go to "Edit Profile" and
"Update" your photo to do so.
Your photo should also be of a reasonably high quality
and size. Quite often, photos taken with cell phones and images that
have been reduced in size (crunched) are of a very low quality and
cannot be picked up by the facial recognition technology. Remember that
the larger the face is in the photo and the better the image quality,
the better are your chances for find a good quality match.

3. Can I change my
profile photo if I want to?
Yes, you can change your profile photo by clicking on
the "Edit Profile" link on the light blue menu bar. The next page will
default to the "Profile Photo and Matching" tab. There, simply click on
the "Update Photo" button to go back to the photo upload page you used
when you first signed up. You have three tries to get the right photo
for matching. We limit the photos so other members can match you without
returning to find you have changed your photo. In the past, we had users
uploading every photo on their computer and running matches with each.
This prevented other members from being able to match them. Every 90
days, you can change your photo again and will have three more tries to
put in the best one.

4. How do you run the matching engine (facial
recognition technology)?
There are two ways to run the facial recognition
engine:
- When you first sign up, click on your username in
the light blue menu bar to go to your profile. Once in your profile
area, you will see your profile photo and next to it you will see
something like "Username's Look-Alikes" and below that "This user
has not identified any look-alikes." Click on the link below that
that says "Select Your Look-Alike" and it will run the matching
search. OR;
- Click on the "Edit Profile" link on the light
blue menu bar. The next page will default to the "Profile Photo and
Matching" tab. There, simply click on the "Begin Matching" button to
run the matching search.

5. When I find a good match, how do I add it to my
profile page?
When you run the matching engine, you will arrive at
the page with your matches. There you will see your photo displayed
beside each of your matches. In some case the matches will be good and
some will be bad. That's why we leave it up to you to decide which match
is best before you post it to your profile page. If you do not see a
good one today, don't worry. Every day our community grows and soon you
will find a good, and eventually great match.
If you have found a good match and you'd like to post
it to your profile page, click on link below the photo that says "click
to view profile and/or add as look-alike". When you click on that link,
a new page will open with your match's profile. We open a new page so
your matching page will remain in place so you can choose to view
another match later. At your match's profile page you can view your
match and any details they have chosen to post on their page. If you
cannot see their profile image very clearly, you can look at their
"Recent Posts". Every member's first post is their profile picture.
Click on the link to see their profile picture in the original size in
order to get a closer look.
If after getting a closer look, checking out any other
photos in their gallery, and reading about them, you decide you want to
add them to your profile page, just click on the link in the "Options"
menu that says "Add your match as a Look-Alike ...". At first it
will appear nothing happens, but if you look at the link you just
clicked it now says "Remove your match as a Look-Alike ...".
Although it looks like nothing happened, the profile picture of your
match has been added to your "Look-Alikes" display area on
your profile page. Just click on
your username in the light blue menu bar to return to your page and see.
Later, when you find better matches and the one you
just chose is no longer one of your best matches, you can click on the
match on your page, return to their profile page and click "Remove your match
as a Look-Alike ..." to remove them. [back to top]
6. How do I show my friends and other people my
profile page and matches?
Every member's URL (site location) has the format
http://ilooklikeyou.com/members/iLookLikeYou.aspx . This link sends
visitors to the iLookLikeYou profile. To send visitors to YOUR profile,
simply replace the words iLookLikeYou with your username. So if your
username is Kirk, then your URL will be
http://ilooklikeyou.com/members/Kirk.aspx . After you replace the
username, you can copy and paste this URL in email messages to send to

7. How do I invite my friends to join this site?
There are two ways to invite friends
from our site:
- Import your address book from
Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and many more. To do this, click on
the "Edit Profile" link on the light blue menu bar. To the right of
this page you will see a square graphic that has the names of the
Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc. on it. Click on it to go to the
Invite page and add the email address and password of the address
book you want to import, then click "Fetch Contacts" to import your
addresses. Use the check boxes to choose who you want to contact,
insert a text message if you like (not required), then click "Send".
OR;
- Type in the email addresses of
friends and family, etc. To do this, click on the "Edit Profile"
link on the light blue menu bar. On this new page, choose the
"Email" tab. In this tab, click on the link in the words "Send a
message to friends and family to join iLookLikeYou.com". On the next
page, choose the option "Enter email addresses". you will then see a
field where you can enter your email addresses. If you have more
than one, put a semi-colon in between each email address. Insert a
text message if you like (not required), then click "Send". [back

8. Is my information safe on this site?
Your information is safe on
iLookLikeyou.com more so than other social networks because we only
require a username and your email address to join. It is very difficult
for anyone to find you if they do not have your exact username as our
search feature will only pull up exact names. They would have to page
through thousands (and potentially hundreds of thousands) of faces to do
find you. Visitors also cannot search for you by your email address. At
iLookLikeyou.com, you can put as much or as little information about
yourself as you like. Whatever you feel comfortable with. We also do not
sell our members information to anyone at any time. We honor the privacy

9. My friends have signed up. How do I find them?
As mentioned in 8. above, we honor the
privacy of our members at iLookLikeyou.com and as a result, in order to
find members, they must have given you their exact username. If you have
that, choose "Find Members" in the dark blue menu bar at the top of the
site. On the next page, enter the username in the blank field and click
"Search". If you have entered the username correctly, the search will
reveal their username with other statistics at the bottom of the page.
Simply click on their username to go to their profile page. [back

10. If I incorrectly signed up, how do I delete my
profile?
From your profile area, you will find a section entitled "Options". In that section you will find the option to delete your profile. [back to top]
